Biostatistics Overview:
This course is of 3 credit hours. It provides you preamble knowledge to basic statistical principles and their application to qualitative and quantitative research studies in health sciences. It is aimed to develop understanding of rules governing use of descriptive and inferential statistics to enhance your knowledge and skills to analyze, synthesize, infer and present given data.
Biostatistics Objectives
By the end of this course you will be able to learn the following things.
- Define various statistical terms.
- Explain the various statistical methods used in health sciences.
- Analyze the use of statistics in some selected research studies.
- Calculate statistical results for selected measures.

Biostatistics Outline
Following units will be taught in this course of biostatistics.
Unit 1: Introduction to Biostatistics And Identification of variable types and variable scales (nominal, ordinal, continuous). Download
Unit 2: Organizing and displaying data: tables; frequency distributions: bar graphs, histograms, frequency polygon; cumulative frequency. Download
Unit 3: Measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) and measures of dispersion (range, variance, standard deviation) Download
Unit 4: The Normal distribution.
Unit 5: The sampling distribution and the Central Limit Theorem Download
Unit 6: Estimation Download
Unit 7: Hypothesis testing: null & alternative hypotheses; significance level Download
